Healthy Vision Tip #4 & 5: Use Protective Eyewear & Wear Glasses

Every 13 minutes, an ER treats a sports related eye injury.  Eye injuries can be prevented and you can take practical steps to protect your eyes.  Using safety glasses at work or at home as well as sport glasses for play can protect against unforeseen accidents.  A baseball that takes a bad bounce or brush that you're clearing in the backyard can be a source of injury.  We have the technology to prevent these types of injuries, we just need to make use of them.

Also, now that summer is approaching, get UV protection for your eyes.  We're all aware of the damage UV rays can have on our skin but it can cause problems with our eyes as well.  UV light has been linked with cataracts, macular degeneration, and pterygiums.  Use quality eye wear to get 100% protection from UVA and UVB light.  Quality coatings can be added onto prescription glasses that provide additional backside UV protection from reflected light.

As we conclude this series, remember to take these practical steps to maintain healthy vision.  Give us a call if you need help getting started.
